The School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) warmly welcomed its first undergraduate students at the School Induction Talk, held on 18 August 2025.

Students were introduced to the School’s vision, academic programmes, and learning resources. Faculty and staff shared information on student support and opportunities, while senior students offered insights to help freshmen adapt to university life.

In his welcome address, Professor Yi Ma, Director of CDS, congratulated the students and described them as trailblazers. “Today marks a truly historic moment, not only for each of you as you embark on this exciting new chapter, but also for our School. As the first undergraduate cohort, you will help shape the culture and traditions of CDS for generations to come,” he said.

He also encouraged students to embrace challenges, collaborate with peers, and seize the opportunities ahead in computing and data science.

The Induction Talk aimed to help students transition smoothly into university life while fostering a sense of belonging to the vibrant CDS community. As the semester begins, CDS looks forward to supporting its students in exploring, learning, and excelling in computing, data science, AI, actuarial science, statistics, fintech and beyond.
