HKU signs MOU with Shanghai Municipal Government for New HKU-CDS Shanghai Campus (Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park)
The University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the People’s Government of Shanghai Pudong New Area have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 8 July to establish the School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) campus in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai. This initiative marks a major milestone for the University as it expands its academic programmes and fosters innovation between the two regions.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and the People’s Government of Shanghai Pudong New Area have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 8 July to establish the School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) campus in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai. This initiative marks a major milestone for the University as it expands its academic programmes and fosters innovation between the two regions.
Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, remarked, “The establishment of the HKU-CDS Shanghai Campus will act as a dynamic bridge of knowledge and innovation, connecting Hong Kong and Shanghai. Through pioneering academic collaboration, we aim to spearhead transformative advancements and foster sustainable development, paving the way for a new chapter in both regions.”
As part of this regional expansion, CDS is launching two exclusive Tech Immersion Fellowship initiatives for both undergraduate (UG) and taught postgraduate (TPg) programmes. The new HKU-CDS Shanghai campus in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park will serve as a world-class research platform and training ground for these two fellowship initiatives.
These initiatives reflect CDS’s strong commitment to integrating education with real-world application and preparing future-ready technology leaders. This collaboration underscores HKU’s vision to integrate regional strengths with global standards, contributing to the development of world-class research, innovation, and talent cultivation in both Hong Kong and Shanghai.
