The School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) successfully hosted its inaugural Open Day at the HKU CDS (Shanghai) on 15 March, attracting over 1,300 parents, students, and teachers eager to explore study opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, and Data Science.

The event aimed to provide visitors with first-hand information and insight into the teaching and learning environment at HKU CDS (Shanghai). It featured an admissions talk detailing the School’s programmes, followed by a dedicated Q&A session to address questions from prospective students and families. In addition, CDS professors travelled from Hong Kong to Shanghai to lead guided campus tours, showcasing state-of-the-art computing facilities, modern sports amenities, the auditorium, and contemporary teaching classrooms.
Professor Yi Ma, Director of CDS, welcomed visitors and outlined the School’s mission to pioneer innovative education models while bridging the gap between academic training and real-world industry needs. He remarked: “HKU CDS (Shanghai) was established to develop the talent that society truly requires. We are committed to continuously evolving our training approaches to cultivate future AI leaders for society as a whole—not only through classroom instruction but also by providing students with valuable industry internship experiences.”

Located in Zhangjiang Science City, an epicentre of cutting-edge technology, research, and startup ecosystems, the HKU CDS (Shanghai) site places students at the heart of China’s leading innovation hub. This location enables immersive learning, research, and collaboration opportunities. As the 2025–2026 academic year entered its second semester, the site had already welcomed approximately 230 CDS undergraduate and postgraduate students.
