Professor Siu Ming YIU, Associate Director (TPg) of the School of Computing and Data Science (CDS), recently appeared on RTHK’s radio programme “Crazy and Happy (瘋Show 快活人)” under the theme “The AI Starter Class II (AI BB班2)” to share his expertise on artificial intelligence (AI) in an accessible and engaging discussion.

Three Pillars of AI Model Training

In this episode, Professor Yiu outlined three essential components involved in training AI models:

1. Big Data – AI needs to be trained on massive and diverse datasets to produce accurate and meaningful results.
2. Algorithms – These form the core of AI systems, determining how machines process information and learn from data.
3. Manual Data Labelling – Human-labelled data plays a vital role in helping AI understand the context of information, such as recognizing objects in images or interpreting language.

He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a critical and evidence-based mindset when evaluating AI-generated outputs.
