Congratulations to Prof Wing Fung (Alfred) Chong, Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, HKU School of Computing and Data Science (CDS), on being awarded the 2025 SOA Actuarial Science Early Career Research Award by the Society of Actuaries (SOA).
This award recognizes exceptional early-career scholars who demonstrate impactful research with real-world actuarial relevance. Prof. Chong’s work spans critical areas such as:
• Risk sharing and pooling
• Risk aggregation and resource allocation
• Artificial intelligence in insurance
• Emerging risk mitigation techniques
Prof. Chong has published extensively in top-tier journals and secured research funding from organizations including the SOA, Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Cisco, and Fundación MAPFRE. His previous recognitions include the Michael V. Colla Prize for Mathematics Related to Medicine (2022) and CAS Best of 2020.
