On 23 April 2025, the School of computing and data science (CDS) proudly hosted its inaugural Poster Exhibition, marking a dynamic convergence of student creativity, technological innovation, and academic achievement. The exhibition featured an impressive array of projects from the new course, AI Literacy I, alongside the annual Computer Science & FinTech Final Year Project(FYP) poster presentations by the graduating UG students.
With over 135 posters, from AI-driven applications to financial technology innovations, students demonstrated how they are applying data science, software engineering, and artificial intelligence to tackle real-world challenges. The AI Literacy I is the new HKU initiative to make this field a graduation requirement for every HKU undergraduate student commencing academic year 2025-26. Being the host teaching department for this course, CDS organised this exhibition to showcase students’ creative approaches to navigating and engaging with AI technologies, reflecting the course’s emphasis on making AI accessible and socially relevant.
Meanwhile, the FYP presentations highlighted advanced and technically robust solutions in areas such as machine learning, blockchain, game development and many more.
We had the privilege of welcoming Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) Professor Ian HOLLIDAY and the Director of CDS Professor Yi MA to engage with our students during the exhibition and review their projects. Faculty members, peers, and industry guests were invited to interact with the students, allowing them to explore their ideas directly. This open format fostered lively discussions and constructive feedback, providing students with an invaluable opportunity to showcase their work beyond the classroom.
The success of this year’s Poster Exhibition reflects CDS’s commitment to fostering a hands-on, interdisciplinary learning environment that bridges technology and society. We warmly welcome everyone to visit and explore the projects and be inspired by the creativity and innovation by our students. The exhibition will be on display in Grand Hall foyer, LG/F, Centennial Campus until May 9th.
